we are looking for someone…

We would like to win you to participate in the greatest social challenge of our time - as a companion for a refugee or a refugee family. Your encouragement (and involvement) enables integration and helps the refugees to stay motivated, achieve their goals, and to not feel alone.

We would like to get to know you personally, to find out what you want and what is important to you as a companion, so that we can bring you together with suitable people. Because communities hold better when they have similar goals, desires or interests as a foundation. When selecting, we also rely on our gut feeling and the opinion of social workers in the accommodations that are together with the refugees every day.

We specifically are addressing people from the neighbourhood of our accommodations, because integration can only be successful in close cooperation with the local community. Once we get to know you we aim at (directly) matching you with a suitable person or family (as soon as possible). We try to do everything we can beforehand for a smooth and effortless functioning of the integration community, which benefits both sides (- the refugees and their families, but also you as a companion, and us a community).

That's the way it works

If you feel addressed by the project, then do not hesitate to contact us via mail or phone. That way we can personally answer any of your questions, and already get to know you a little. We believe that becoming a companion is an important decision that may be accompanied by uncertainties and raise new questions, especially in the beginning of the process. Hence, we put great emphasis on supporting you personally wherever insecurities may arise and to inform you in the most detailed and personal manner possible.

Once you decide to become a companion, we would like to invite you for a personal conversation. Here, we want to get to know you better as a person, as well as your interests, goals, and desires. This serves as the basis to bring you together with people from our accommodation that we believe are most suitable for you. Our philosophy is that focusing on things we share is the foundation of successful integration in any community.

After getting to know you personally, we are going to match you with one of our refugees or refugee families as quickly as possible, so that you can start your companionship. Companionship can have a whole range of meanings, reaching from giving support during municipality visits, helping to get to know the neighbourhood (and city of Berlin), or simply offering an open ear. As little time as two to three hours a week can already have a huge impact in a refugees’ everyday live. “Yadan Biad” means “hand in hand” and stands for companions and refugees, and people and friends.

As a companion or companion in our project you have the opportunity to get to know refugees and to support them on their way into society. Start now in the adventure yadan biad and get in touch with us:
